When the state stops paying benefits, a revolution may follow. Jan Mikulecký described the state's kyberbezpečnost from the inside

The guest of the new episode of the CZECH CYBER TV podcastu was Jan Mikulecký, director of the department of kyberbezpečnost at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. In an open interview he described how the entire department of kyberbezpečnost was built practically from scratch, why employee education is one of the most important parts of the state's defence and how MPSV handled hundreds of fake websites imitating the Jenda client zone.

The interview also covers phishing campaigns, training more than 25,000 users, the use of AI in public administration, and the risks associated with sharing photos of children on the internet.

One of the main ideas of the interview is simple: kyberbezpečnost státu není abstraktní IT téma. If the systems for paying benefits stopped working, the impact would be felt immediately by real people.

In the podcast, Jan Mikulecký also describes concrete cases of attacks where attackers created fake domains and pages imitating the ministry's systems. According to him, MPSV dealt with roughly 250 podvodných webů over about 18 months that were used for phishing attacks and the abuse of bankovní identity of citizens.

A large part of the interview is also the topic of sharentingu, i.e. the excessive sharing of photos of children on the internet. Mikulecký describes his own experience with his child's kindergarten and the reasons why he decided to repeatedly draw attention to the risks of children's digital footprints from an early age.
